2. TVS Apache RTR 200 4V (Rs. 93,280/-)

The blokes at Hosur have always taken racing seriously and they took this approach to take motorcycles to a whole new level with the Apache RTR 200 4V. The Apache RTR 200 4V is built around a double cradle chassis. At the heart of this chassis is a 198cc oil-cooled single-cylinder engine, with four valves. This engine is available with the option of either a carburetor or a fuel-injection system. While the former produces 20.2bhp and a peak torque of 18.1Nm, the fuel injected engine produces 0.5bhp extra.

It weighs just 141 kg (ABS Version), despite being a fully faired motorcycle. The 1-channel ABS version was recently launched for INR 89,000 (ex-showroom Mumbai). if we consider motorcycles in the 150-160cc category, the Suzuki Gixxer SF is right up there with the best.  4. Bajaj Avenger 220 (Rs. 88,000/-)

 The beast from Bajaj comes with a 220 CC 4 stroke engine that churns out 18.8 bhp of power at 8400 rpm. Packed with a 260 mm front disc brake and a 130 mm drum rear brake, the cruiser bike offers a ground clearance of 169 mm and promises a comfortable ride. The Bajaj Avenger 220 Street also features a 14 liters fuel tank, self-start, analog speedometer, pillion backrest and footrest, engine kill switch, pass lights amongst other features. The Avenger 220 uses the carburetted 220cc, single cylinder, air-and-oil-cooled, DTS-i motor from the Pulsar 220, albeit in a state of tune that’s more suited for a cruiser. Even though it’s slightly down on power and torque as compared to the Pulsar, it has a wider torque curve aimed at delivering a strong low-to-mid range pull.  The Avenger range is also a hit with customers who like to go on long rides and tours and Bajaj is aiming to eat into the sales of Royal Enfield motorcycles, which are similarly priced.


5. Yamaha FZ-S Fi (Rs. 83,500/-)

 Yamaha FZ-S is the game changer bike when it arrived in February 2008. It really showed off what was possible in the 150cc category, a segment that was getting a bit stale after it was kick-started in a big way by the original Hero Honda (sic) CBZ. It packed a strong motor, superb handling characteristics and most importantly, class-redefining style. The fuel injected Yamaha FZ-S is the most affordable semi-faired and fuel injected motorcycle of India. The design is attractive while the engine is much better refined than ever. It claims a top speed of 119 kmph and weight just 140 Kg.  Yamaha updated the engine to be BS IV compliant for 2017. The prices for the FZ-S start at ₹ 83,500. We would love to see a V3.0 of the FZ-S sometime soon. For its price, the FZ-S is an attractive proposition.


6. Bajaj Pulsar 150 (Rs.74,800/-)

 The first-generation Pulsar 150 was launched way back in 2001 and ever since it has been the bread and butter model for Bajaj. The fact that Bajaj has still persisted with it proves its importance to the company. For 2017, the Pulsar 150 got quite a few changes. An engine is a 149cc unit that produces 15bhp and 12Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheel via a five-speed sequential gearbox and a chain drive. Standard features include twin spark ignition and drum brake for the rear wheel. The Honda CB Hornet 160R has been a successful product for Honda ever since its launch in December 2015. Based on the Unicorn 160, the new motorcycle was focussed more towards the young buyers with its sharp and sporty styling. The engine used on the CB Hornet 160 is exactly the same unit as seen on the Unicorn 160 but the powerplant has been tweaked to extract more juice out of it. It is an addition to the existing CB Shine model and also uses the same engine but has a five-speed gearbox. the CB Shine SP as a premium 125cc offering. The new 125cc motorcycle retails between Rs 63,500 and Rs 65,600 (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi and post-GST). The CB Shine SP is powered by the same 124.7cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that was under duty on the previous model as well. CB Shine SP is the flagship model for Shine series in India. It comes with a 124.73cc, air-cooled engine producing 10.16 BHP and 10.30 Nm of torque. The SP version comes with a 5-speed gearbox and weighs 124 kg with full fuel.


9. Bajaj V15 (Rs. 65,800/-)

 The new Bajaj V15 is the Pune based bike maker’s answer to its dwindling sales in the commuter class courtesy some experiments have gone wrong with the Discover brand. Bajaj V15 uses the metal from the retired Indian warship INS Vikrant. Launched under a patriotic theme, the motorcycle now comes in 4 attractive shades and competes for the likes of Hero Achiever and Honda Unicorn 150. The Unicorn 150 does not feature at the top of our list of the best bikes in India under 1 lakh. Reasons include unappealing styling and commuter bike credentials. Cosmetically, the new CB Unicorn is identical to the older model. The conservative looks of the motorcycle are brought out by the simple and clean decal-free bodywork. The sculpted fuel tank has been designed to allow you to comfortably latch your leg on to it and can gulp down 13 liters of fuel. The popularity of the Unicorn 150 has now led Honda to introduce the BS IV-compliant version of the motorcycle. However, the Honda CB Unicorn 150 has not been upgraded cosmetically or mechanically (except making it BS IV compliant) in this form and it now costs Rs 73,500 (ex-showroom)
